One of the best kept secrets of the music industry is that the singers we hear performing our favorite songs are not always the authors of those songs.
“Songwriters in the Round” concerts have become a tradition in Nashville to recognize, promote, and honor the creators of song – recording artists who write some or all of their songs, or the full-time professional song poets who write for full-time recording artists. The songwriters take turns singing and talking about the songs they've written.
The TriJangle concert series brings this unique concert experience out of Nashville to a wider audience. The debut show is in the greater Chicago area on Saturday, November 14th, featuring veteran songwriters Pierce Pettis, Pat Terry & John Austin.
Between the three, their songs have been recorded by Joan Baez, Susan Ashton, Dar Williams, Garth Brooks, Art Garfunkel, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, John Anderson, Sammy Kershaw, The Gaither Vocal Band, B.J. Thomas, and The Oak Ridge Boys.
They have collaborated with artists such as Mark Heard, Shawn Mullins, Buddy Miller, Better Than Ezra, Vigilantes of Love, John Mayer Band, The BoDeans, Steve Winwood Band, Sugarland, Train and The Innocence Mission.
The showcase starts at 7:30pm in The Auditorium Theater at Westridge Community Church in Elgin, Illinois. Local Chicago songwriter Jeremiah Higgins will be opening with a couple of his tunes. Driving directions are available here.
